EARTH-WHAT?
The construction of buildings with used tires is based in a concept, created by the american eco-architect Michael Reynolds, called 'earthship'.

An earthship is an ecological house made with “trash” (tires, bottles, cans…) that uses the energy from the sun and the wind, and take advantage of the rain’s water. The concept is also related with the total autonomy of its inhabitants, being independent from external help, producing their own food, recycling and even reusing their own garbage.

Reynolds is a passionate advocate of a ‘radically sustainable’ way of living. He is a critic of the architect’s job (his own profession) because of the amount of garbage made by traditional construction and for which is not given use. That’s the reason he created this new way of construction, alternative and sustainable, and now he has a company exclusively dedicated to the design and construction of ‘earthships’: EARTHSHIP BIOTECTURE (Taos, New Mexico).

The first construction of his responsibility in this patterns was built in 1972: Thumb House.
